I remember being asked many years ago, "How do you sign up 20 students a month?" My response is simple, but I'm not going to talk about it just yet. Everyone is always looking for the homerun marketing campaign that is going to solve all their problems. Wait a minute... who said anything about problems? Common on... isn't that what drives us? I remember signing up 20 new students in 6 months and having 20 old students in 6 months quit. If you know what I'm talking about, you've got a problem, and the problem is not going to get better until you realize something needs to be done.
First of all, let's quit looking for the homerun. Homerun marketing functions are wonderful, don't get me wrong, but here is the reality... our business is like a baseball game, and baseball games are won by singles and doubles. So, when asked, "How do you sign up 20 students a month?" My response is this, "I CAN'T tell you one thing to sign up 20 students a month, but I CAN tell you 20 things to sign up 1 student."
Here is the reality- the economy sucks right now! The fact is this, martial art schools around the country are experiencing lower enrollments. And, it's not limited to martial arts, either. Gymnastic centers, dance centers, etc. are all experiencing lower enrollments. So, what are you going to do about it? I'll tell you, it's either sink or swim. The truth is there are less people that we have to market to that are qualified to buy our product. Think of your marketing as a net to catch fish. Well, in this market, all we need is a bigger net to catch the same amount of fish. Discouraging? You bet it is, but those that are quickest to get over being discouraged are the ones that live well while everyone else is just trying to keep their head above water.
